$4-a-gallon gas likely here after California refinery fire

Associated Press (Via Seattle Times) -- RICHMOND, Calif. — A major fire at one of the country's biggest oil refineries that sent scores of people to hospitals with breathing problems will push gas prices above $4 a gallon on the West Coast, analysts said Tuesday.

The fire, which sent plumes of black smoke over the San Francisco Bay Area, erupted Monday evening in the massive Chevron refinery at Richmond, about 10 miles northeast of San Francisco.

It was out early Tuesday, although officials were still conducting a controlled burn.

The fire could increase gas prices in Washington by as much as 30 cents a gallon, said Tim Hamilton, executive director of the Automotive United Trades Organization, a nonprofit that represents gas-station owners.

That would push Washington's gas prices over $4 per gallon.

I'm not happy to hear that gasoline could reach $4 per gallon in many areas.

A good excuse for those in Calif? What good excuse, Wanda? It is going to cost us a lot more at the pumps. And I am not just talking about folks here in the Golden State. I am talking about fellow West Coast drivers.

By the way, we did not ask for it. It's Chevron's fault.

P.S. It's already $4 at some gas stations here in California. I know of one and drove by it yesterday evening.

Let's hope $4 a gallon doesn't spread eastward. I live in NC, but recently vacationed in Ohio. Gas is $3.80 a gallon in Ohio. In the 3.60's in West Virginia and in $3.50's here in NC. Hoping it doesn't keep going up!

Good old Gas Buddy. They sent this yesterday, so I called my spouse and suggested a fill up:

Watch out! Gas prices could be jumping in Santa Barbara! Warn your friends. Forward this email.
Projected Price
$4.4-4.5

Now THAT is what I call good service.

Hey it's getting higher here as well - up to $3.85, and was down to $3.49 about 2 weeks ago.

But we're getting the Great Lakes increase which will then be affected by the refinery fire, whihch will then be affected by.......It's a crazy up and down cycle!

This is what happens when bureaucratic red tape causes the number of refineries to be half of what they were forty years ago, in addition to those stupid STUPID summer to winter blends and special boutiques!!

Vancouver BC pays over $5 a gallon.... $4 a gallon ain't that bad... worth the 20 minute drive across the border.
