NHTSA Alerting Consumers to Dangers of Counterfeit Air Bags

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a consumer safety advisory to alert vehicle owners and repair professionals to the dangers of counterfeit air bags. NHTSA has become aware of a problem involving the sale of counterfeit air bags for use as replacement parts in vehicles that have been involved in a crash. This was on the national news several days ago, so why did you read it here yesterday or again today. It was already "old". Almost everything posted on gasbuddy is "old" because it is copied or lifted from some other publication. If you do not want to read any "old" news then do not read the gasbuddy articles, because they have already been printed somewhere else earlier. The people who are posting the articles believe they are of interest to gasbuddy readers. If you do not think so, then it is up to YOU to find some new articles to post for the rest of us to read. And as for the other major complaint, when YOU find a new article to post, be sure it is about saving gas dollars and getting better milege, so everybody will not comment about "what does this have to so with saving money?" ////////////////////end of rant for today///////////////////////

This is an instance when it pays to have repair work done at an authorized dealership. You want safety equipment to operate when the time comes, not just sit there with it's offical looking stickers. People have driven vehicles and trucks for years without seat belts and air bags, now there are Counterfeit Air Bags too? OMG! If this is a used vehicle and it has been in a wreck, you really don't know about the air bag, is it a used one or a new one? Will it work like it's supposed to or not? Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

Here's my take: You walk into a repair shop and ask for the cheapest air bag, irregardless if it works or not and even though 9 out of 10 times the INSURANCE company is footing YOUR bill. NO, NO, NOOOooo! This is what YOUR Car Insurance company is saying to the repair guy. China comes along and says 'we can do that' because we don't care and you can't come after us - someone dies well too bad, so sad. They have been thumbing their nose at any morality and ethics for years; Want some Lead Paint on a toy?! Some things are decent, but then exactly just how do you know for sure? I don't carry a lead test kit or radiation detector or etc. with me! Fact is that the consumer has no part of this. The penny pinching Insurance companies are solely driving this conterfiet market. Our GUMENT, who we expect (and pay taxes) to PROTECT US & regulate the dirty deals the Insurance companies come up with, should have caught this immediately.
