Tat I wouldn't talk about riots if I were you. It wasn't exactly peaceful in LA after the Lakers' titles, was it?

Spoelstra was dumped with Gatorade on the Miami floor tonight.

Let's not jump all over PP anymore. It's all about celebrating.

Trash talking is a part of sports. The socall poster boys engage in it. I see it in track, Jerimer Warimer was doing it at the last olympics and was beaten. It doesn't have anything to do with where you are. I blayed international basketball in the NAVY in the sixties. There was trash talking there although at times you didn't understand what was being said. The idea is to try to get an edge. Reading these posts lets me know the ones that played organized team sports and those that have not.

I have played everywhere. I have been the only white person on the court. Trash is trash no matter where you are and respect for your fellow human being is the same no matter what part of the city you are in. Manners is manners.

I trash talk but with a smile on my face. I would never call somebody a beeatch like Chris Paul. My mouth doesn't run 24/7 . And 99 % of the guys I play with are my friends and it is taken in humor.

The all-time greats were all trash-talkers, including Jordan. Larry Bird was one of the most notorious of all time!

Nothing wrong with talking smack as long as you can back it up, and it doesn't get personal (talking about your opponent's mother, etc.).

"Kobe is a headcase but has never been a trash talker. "

That is laughable. Kobe is ALWAYS trying to get in the opponents head, and let's not even talk about how he constantly whines whenever he misses a shot and someone might have breathed on him.

I believe LogicMan pegged it, your huge list of topics about how players look is in and of itself trash talking, perhaps it's you who needs to show a modicum of respect to the game.

Understood.

But I think trash talking is part of the game and comes from where you play; I would expect a lot of it in the inner city playgrounds, and less or none of it in an affluent suburban Y.

If you could back it up by winning and making shots, fine, if you can't, don't talk. I suppose that's what we can take out of this.

And back to the subject about the Gatorade on the floor, he didn't dump it on the floor, he dumped it on Doc, and most of it ended up on the floor. And it wasn't at an opposing court like the Staples Center, it was at the Garden. It was a symbolic moment, but not in a bad way. Just my opinion. If Kobe had done that, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's a joyous occasion, it's not like Pierce dumped it on an opponent.

Kobe is a headcase but has never been a trash talker. I don't like him for throwing the 2003 championship. Paul Pierce is an imbecile for dumping Gatorade on a stadium floor. It is disrespectful of the game. Trash talking is not as common as you think. It is quite rare, actually. The trash talkers are not liked by the other players and you can see it when you watch them. All the other players disliked Michael. They respected him and treasured his contribution to the popularity of the NBA but didn't like him. They all loved Charles because he didn't trash talk. He was brutish but respectful of other people. I play basketball 3 times a week and nobody likes the trash talkers. It is rude and a display of disrespect and stupidity.

I'm not from New England, and I think your post was way off base! Paul is no worse than any other player looking for calls and trash-talking. I've never had a problem with Paul! Why is he an "imbecile"?

Trash talking is very common in the NBA. If that bothers you, I suggest finding other forms of entertainment!

Is it any wonder that both critics of my opinion of this imbecile are from New England? I wasn't happy eating crow when the Lakers got sent home to watch the finals on TV either. I loved the "He can't hold me" head shaking and then "He" dropping 45 on Pierce in the very next game. I never have cared for ANY trash talking idiots. That includes Michael, Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Love their game but can't stand their mouths.

I think you're the only person on this planet who's ever had a problem with that, Tatalah.
